How to Read Your Natal Chart: Complete Beginner's Guide
Your natal chart is a snapshot of the sky at the exact moment you were born. It’s the foundation of personal astrology — and reading it is more accessible than you might think.
The Three Layers
Every natal chart has three layers:
- Planets — what energy is at play (Sun = identity, Moon = emotions, Mercury = thought, etc.)
- Signs — how that energy expresses itself (Aries = bold, Taurus = steady, Gemini = curious, etc.)
- Houses — where in your life it manifests (1st house = self, 7th house = relationships, 10th = career, etc.)
When you combine all three — planet + sign + house — you get a specific statement about yourself. For example: Moon in Pisces in the 4th house means your emotional nature (Moon) is intuitive and empathetic (Pisces) and expresses most strongly in home and family life (4th house).
